One night I was talking with a somewhat regular customer about a new restaurant that had opened in our area.

That is, we tried to talk.

Server drink orders kept on pulling me away.

His critique was that it was a pretty cool place — nice atmosphere, decent food — but he did add that, “The bartenders were sort of grumpy.” When I returned from the service station, again, he said, “In my next life, I think I want to be a bartender.” I said, “Hey, that’s what I said in my past life!” As I headed back to the service station, again, I shouted, “What did I get myself into?”
