Avoiding The Tax Man

Barring any 11th hour amendments to the state budget (this issue went to press prior to the June 30 budget deadline), Ohio’s beverage alcohol industry once again was spared a damaging tax increase.

In fact, increased excise taxes on beer, wine and spirits weren’t even mentioned when budget preparations began back in January. This could be the result of the reluctant-to-tax Republicans controlling both the governor’s office and the Statehouse, or it could be that elected officials here finally have come to the realization that alcohol excise taxes do more harm than good.
