Ohio Winery Wins Frisco Medal

SAN FRANCISCO — A Northeast Ohio winery was the sole medal winner from the state in the recently San Francisco International Wine Competition.

St. Joseph Vineyard of Thompson won a silver medal for its 2009 Grand River Cabernet Franc.

According to competition organizers, a record number of wines were entered in the 31st annual event, with judges tasting 4,184 wines from more than 1,200 wineries in 20 states and 29 counties. From those, judges awarded 153 double gold medals, 290 gold medals, 1,102 silver medals and 1,549 bronze medals.
