EVENDALE — Using what could become a new tool for enforcing the statewide workplace smoking ban, the Ohio Division of Liquor Control last month refused to renew the liquor permit of a Cincinnati-area bar which had accumulated thousands of dollars in unpaid fines for alleged violations of the ban.

Peg’s Pub here became the first premises in the state to lose its license as a result of outstanding fines, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. A database from the Ohio Department of Public Health shows Peg’s owed $52,400 in fines at the time of the nonrenewal of its permit.
