Rye: America's First - And Forgotten - Whiskey

While bourbon may be the king of American whiskeys, it was not the first native whiskey. That distinction almost certainly goes to rye whiskey. It's not certain when rye was first distilled in the Americas, but some experts place it sometime in the 1600s, as much as 100 years before corn-based whiskeys became prominent and popular.
