COLUMBUS — When Gov. John Kasich signed House Bill 491 into law earler this month, the measure’s sponsors got a little more than they bargained for.

Originally introduced simply to create an “Ohio Wines Month” designation for the month of June, the bill emerged from Senate committee hearings last month with additional language expanding beverage alcohol sales privileges of certain liquor agencies. The changes were made by the Senate Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee and approved by both chambers of the legislature before being sent to the governor, who signed it June 6.
