After 150 Years, Bacardi Is Still Building Its Rum Legacy

One man, Jose Gomez, makes 85 percent of all of the Barcardi rum consumed across the globe.

And that’s just the way the 150-year-old company likes it.

“Unless the formula is exact, it doesn’t go through,” said Willie Ramos, Bacardi brand master. “This is our product — our baby. It’s what we care about.”

Bacardi Limited, the largest, privately held spirits company in the world, churns out more than 200 brands and labels, but when it comes to rum, it’s eponymous Bacardi Superior is king.
