COLUMBUS — Ohio beer manufacturers spend an estimated $4 million to buy hops from growers outside of Ohio, a trend that a new program at Ohio State University is attempting to reverse.

Recognizing the potential for this market, OSU has decided to develop a hop research program focused on production and marketing, said Brad Bergefurd, OSU Extension agriculture educator at the OSU South Centers in Piketon and at the Scioto County office of OSU Extension.
