WASHINGTON — A trade agreement between the United States and Panama recently went into effect, giving U.S. spirits exporters tariff-free access to Panama’s growing spirits market.

With the agreement, Panama officially eliminated its 15 percent tariff on U.S. distilled spirits products. As a result, American whiskeys, rums and other spirits products now enter Panama duty-free. Panama also agreed to recognize bourbon and Tennessee whiskey as distinctive products of the United States.
