COLUMBUS — The Ohio House of Representatives last month passed legislation establishing stricter regulation of “sweepstakes” gaming at so-called Internet cafes.

House Bill 7 imposes prize limits and registration requirements on establishments offering gaming via “sweepstakes terminal devices.” It passed the House March 13 by a 66-29 margin.

The bill prohibits the awarding of cash, gift cards and nearly all other forms of prizes for sweepstakes winners; the only prize allowed under the legislation is merchandise worth no more than $10.
