Caps Off To The Iconic Beer Can
Beer cans have come a long way since Jan. 24, 1935, when Gottfried Krueger Brewing Co. of Newark, N.J., introduced its Special Beer and Cream Ale in steel cans.
Those first cans, typically conetops or flattops that required a churchkey opener, revolutionized beer drinking. Cans provided a lighter, more durable container than the heavy glass bottles of the day. They also provided for easier disposal since most bottles were returnable and required a deposit.
