There’s a new demon in the battle against alcohol abuse, and it could be closer than you think.

In response to a news report earlier this month that a Midwest grocery store chain is introducing a bar/restaurant concept into some of its stores, a Florida-based detox center issued a press release warning “Alcohol abuse may rise as supermarket opens in-store bars.” Supermarkets with bars will only serve to heighten the problem of alcohol addiction, cautioned Robert Niznik, CEO of the Harbor Village treatment center, as it becomes easier for “addicts” to purchase alcoholic beverages.
