WASHINGTON — Ohio taxes spirits at one of the highest levels in the country, according to an analysis by the Tax Foundation, which also found the state’s excise taxes on beer and wine are in the bottom third of the nation.

Based on data from the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, Ohio’s $9.32 per gallon excise tax ranks it the 12th highest in the country, according to the Tax Foundation, an independent tax policy research organization. Ohio’s current ranking is actually an improvement over 2013, when its tax rate of $9.84 per gallon placed it 11th highest.
