RARE LIFE — Karen Shirk of Xenia was one of six runners-up in Eagle Rare whiskey’s 2014 Rare Life Award program. Shirk’s chosen charity, 4 Paws for Ability, received the program’s Character Award and a $4,000 runner-up prize. Angie Goodwin of Calhoun, Ky., was the winner of the $40,000 grand prize for her charity, Thumbs Up for Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation. The Rare Life Award is an annual recognition program created to honor individuals who exhibit courage, leadership, survival, devotion, character and heroism. Candidates are nominated by friends, family and colleagues.
