COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich signed legislation last month extending existing laws governing the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to “alternative nicotine products,” such as electronic cigarettes.

House Bill 144 makes it illegal for anyone under 18 to purchase or use e-cigarettes and similar devices. It also prohibits manufacturers, distributors, retailers and individuals from selling or distributing such products to minors; illegal distribution of e-cigarettes is a third degree misdemeanor under the bill.
